Generalizing Consistency and other Constraint Properties to Quantified Constraints

Quantified constraints and Quantified Boolean Formulae are typically much more difficult to reason with than classical constraints, because quantifier alternation makes the usual notion of solution inappropriate. As a consequence, basic properties of Constraint Satisfaction Problems (CSP), such as consistency or substitutability, are not completely understood in the quantified case. These properties are important because they are the basis of most of the reasoning methods used to solve classical (existentially quantified) constraints, and one would like to benefit from similar reasoning methods in the resolution of quantified constraints. In this paper, we show that most of the properties that are used by solvers for CSP can be generalized to quantified CSP. This requires a re-thinking of a number of basic concepts; in particular, we propose a notion of outcome that generalizes the classical notion of solution and on which all definitions are based. We propose a systematic study of the relations which hold between these properties, as well as complexity results regarding the decision of these properties. Finally, and since these problems are typically intractable, we generalize the approach used in CSP and propose weaker, easier to check notions based on locality, which allow to detect these properties incompletely but in polynomial time

La forma verbale aflukad (III pers. sing. del congiuntivo presente) ricorre due volte nel testo dell’iscrizione Vetter 6, rr. 1 e 3, una tabella defixionis in lingua osca rinvenuta nel 1876 nella necropoli di Cuma (Fondo Patturelli) e databile fra il IV e il III sec. a.C. E' presumibile che la varietà funzionale di osco documentata in Vetter 6 fosse ben diversa da quelle presenti nel resto del corpus ufficiale sannita, costituito per lo più da scritture esposte di tipo istituzionale o religioso. La voce aflukad riveste un ruolo centrale nell’interpretazione dei primi righi dell’iscrizione: provare a capirne (e a carpirne) il reale valore corrisponde, inevitabilmente, a proporre una nuova interpretazione complessiva di tutta la porzione iniziale di Vetter 6

Essai de stratigraphie linguistique de la Lex XII tabularum

This paper aims at to identify the different historical-linguistic layers in the fragmentary texts of the ancient Roman Law of the Twelve Tables. We show that the language of the Twelve Tables - despite some philological questions about their transmission during the last centuries of the Roman Republic - displays chronological strata. A thorough analysis of the phonological and morphological features and of the archaisms preserved by the written tradition here allows us to show the presence of three distinct layers, which can be ascribed to the three different linguistic periods of the 5th, 3rd and 1st centuries B

La prima impressione di sporadicità e di recenziorità del contatto interlinguistico italo-giapponese corrisponde solo in parte alla realtà. Con l’eccezione del lessico delle arti marziali, infatti, e di alcune voci specifiche della gastronomia giapponese, lo spoglio delle fonti scritte con le relative retrodatazioni aiuta a disegnare un quadro del flusso di nipponismi in italiano più ricco di quanto non si potrebbe immaginare. La prima importante constatazione è che esiste un manipolo nutrito di imprestiti attinenti alla cultura e alle istituzioni giapponesi che circolavano con una certa frequenza sin dal Cinque-Seicento. E anche in seguito la curiosità degli scienziati, degli uomini di lettere nei confronti del Giappone è immensa, onnivora e non può essere sottovalutata. I vari bollettini, annuari, riviste uscite a cavaliere tra XIX e XX secolo pullulano di pubblicazioni, articoli, narrazioni relative al mondo nipponico di cui si vuole esplorare e sapere tutto. Molte retrodatazioni dei nipponismi tardo-novecenteschi registrati dal GRADIT e da altre fonti precedenti sono una testimonianza precisa di tale circostanza
